Italy's Giorgio Pantano is expected to become Jordan's Formula One test driver after an agreement with the Super Nova Formula 3000 team.

Super Nova, the most successful team in F3000 history, were announced as Jordan's official junior team today and team boss David Sears said the initiative would allow a crossover of sponsors and drivers.

"It is hopeful that perhaps Giorgio Pantano, who missed out on a Champ Car opportunity recently, could be a possibility as a test driver for Jordan Ford Formula One and as a race driver with Jordan Grand Prix Junior Team," said Sears.

Eddie Jordan said he and Sears, who was Jordan's first Formula Three driver when he founded that team in 1981, had been talking for some time about collaboration.

"We will work together on a number of fronts, developing driver programmes, encouraging sponsorship into the sport and providing technical assistance where relevant," he said.

Jordan said earlier this month that the team could wait until the first European race of the season in April before appointing a test and reserve driver.
