An Italian student who was attacked in a north Dublin park last week remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital, with his mother at his side.

Mr Guido Nasi (17) sustained a fractured skull in the attack in Fairview Park at 10.30 p.m. last Thursday, when a man smashed a beer bottle on his head.

The attack happened after Mr Nasi had chased a youth who had stolen his wallet. Mr Nasi was rushed to the Mater Hospital and later underwent emergency surgery at Beaumont Hospital, where he remains in intensive care.

His mother, Simonetta, and her sister arrived in Dublin last Friday and were met by volunteers from the Tourist Victim Support Service. They have been with Mr Nasi over the weekend.
