US: The singer Michael Jackson apologised yesterday for dangling a baby (right), said to be his, out of the fourth-floor window of a Berlin hotel on Tuesday, apparently to show him to fans."I made a terrible mistake. I got caught up in the excitement of the moment. I would never intentionally endanger the lives of my children," he said in a statement.
Child welfare experts in the United States were appalled by the incident, in which Jackson briefly held the baby, named Prince Michael II, by one hand from a fourth-storey window of the Adlon Hotel near the Brandenburg Gate.
"Considering Mr Jackson started a charity to protect children, this was alarmingly irresponsible behaviour with a child," said Mr Kevin Kirkpatrick of Prevent Child Abuse America.
Yesterday Jackson accompanied two unidentified children to Berlin zoo (left). Both had their faces covered. Jackson is said to have two other children, a five-year-old named Prince Michael and four-year-old daughter named Paris. Both are said to be by his former nurse and ex-wife, Debbie Rowe. The singer, who reached a multi-million dollar settlement in 1993 after being accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old boy, is in Berlin to receive a Bambi lifetime achievement award.
