Exactly one week after the celebrity wedding of the year, Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall took part in a celebrity annulment settlement.
After the 12-minute hearing in London yesterday, the Texan supermodel is thought to have negotiated a figure close to the £30 million sterling she was seeking from her roving rockstar husband, who is reputed to be worth £150 million.
Showing a level of class beyond Posh 'n' Becks, the showbiz couple released a civilised joint statement through their lawyers which said they had "amicably and formally agreed to separate after more than two decades as a couple and to obtain an annulment".
Legal observers suggested that as the couple were getting an annulment and not a divorce, Jagger's contention that their Hindu wedding ceremony on the Island of Bali in 1991 was not valid under English law had probably been accepted at the hearing.
The agreement was described as a "mutually acceptable legal and financial settlement".
Hall (43) filed for a divorce earlier this year after she discovered that a 29-year-old Brazilian model was pregnant with 55-year-old Jagger's child. She employed the services of Mishcon de Reya, the lawyers used by the late Diana, Princess of Wales, for her £17 million divorce settlement.
The couple, who have four children together, have had a stormy relationship since they met at a Rolling Stones gig in 1977. Jagger was married to Bianca Jagger at the time. The model - a millionaire in her own right - has threatened to leave Jagger several times after a series of high-profile infidelities.
The statement said that the couple were "determined that their friendship and mutual respect" would endure."
