The former Irish national swimming coach, Derry O'Rourke, who is serving a 12-year prison sentence for sex offences, is due for sentence at the Central Criminal Court on May 26th on further charges.

O'Rourke (53), married with six children, of Edenderry, Co Offaly, pleaded guilty on March 24th last to nine out of a total of 59 charges of sexual abuse involving five girls. The offences took place between April 1st 1976 and December 31st 1992. He was jailed for 12 years on January 30th, 1998, by Judge Kieran O'Connor at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court after he pleaded guilty to 29 charges relating to offences involving 11 girls.
