A FATHER of six with 63 previous convictions was jailed yesterday for eight months and banned from driving for 10 years for repeatedly driving without insurance.

Patrick Connolly (42), of Fana Burca, Knocknacarra, Galway, pleaded guilty at Galway District Court to driving without insurance on March 3rd and again on May 25th this year.

Judge Mary Fahy noted Connolly had changed his hair colour since his last appearance in court but that did not “throw her” from recognising him.

“He is only out of prison as far as I can remember for a litany of other road traffic offences. He seems to have changed his hair colour, which may have thrown me momentarily, but I still recognise him,” Judge Fahy said.

Insp Ernie White said Connolly had 63 previous convictions, 35 of which were for motoring offences, including eight for driving without insurance consistently in the past.

Imposing sentences totalling eight months for both offences along with a 10-year driving ban, Judge Fahy said Connolly would keep driving away regardless of any court order.
