Blackburn Rovers striker Matt Jansen has joined Coventry City on loan until the end of the season.
However, Rovers have stressed that the move is only for the short-term and he will be back in their squad for the start of next season.
Rovers' chief executive John Williams explained that the deal was to assist Jansen in his battle to return to match fitness.
"This is a mutually beneficial deal," he told the club's official website.
"Whilst it should be very good for Coventry, our number one priority is restoring Matt to full fitness ahead of next season.
"His chances of first-team football here are currently restricted, but it is absolutely vital that Matt Jansen gets to play football.
"We are already looking forward to welcoming him back to the fold for the next campaign."
Jansen said: "When I heard Gary McAllister and Coventry wished to pursue a loan arrangement, I was happy to listen to their proposals. I am very much looking forward to getting involved."
Jansen's first-team appearances have been restricted this season as he has struggled to fight back from serious injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident while on holiday in pre-season.
Meanwhile, Richard Shaw has signed a one-year contract extension that will keep him at Coventry until July 2004. The 34-year-old defender is the Sky Blues' longest-serving player.
