If you are one of those lucky people who owns a greenhouse, this is the time of the year when you have to pay for your pleasure - by spending hours cleaning it out. Young plants need plenty of light to get off to a good, healthy start in life, so scrub the glass thoroughly, inside and out, to remove the build-up of grime and algae. Make sure to brush out awkward corners and the "black holes" under greenhouse benches where rubbish (and pest-life) accumulates.

In many parts of the country lawns have been growing throughout the winter, and - weather permitting - will benefit from a trim. If the ground is firm and the day is dry, mow the lawn with the mower blades set to high. Then, send the mower off to be serviced, along with your shears and secateurs, if they need sharpening.
