England coach Peter Moores admitted his side were left disappointed after a frustrating second day of the decisive third Test against Sri Lanka.
Mahela Jayawardene completed back-to-back hundreds in Galle to hamper England's bid to level the series.
Captain Jayawardene, 30, became his country's most prolific Test centurion in the process as his opposite number Michael Vaughan's decision to insert was not backed up by the bowling and fielding.
Overnight rain reduced the second day's play but Jayawardene still managed to bat for over five hours, patiently developing his unbeaten 51 into 149 not out as Sri Lanka reached 384 for six.
Moores said: "We can't have any complaints, no excuses. Jayawardene played well but we've got to come back tomorrow and have another go.
"They (Sri Lanka) have shown you can bat on it and build a score, so we'll take that when we bat.
"But I think we're disappointed in there because we think we could have done a better job."
Talking about dropped catches and missed chances, Moores continued on Sky Sports: "It's something we talk about.
"Good sides do take half-chances and it's something we're working very hard at. Today we put a couple down.
"We'll come back tomorrow and have another go."
