It is unclear if all the 250 staff in Dublin will be made redundant in the restructuring or if some will be transferred to Limerick. Staff are due to be briefed this afternoon and SerCom will issue a formal statement later.

DCC said two of its units have acquired companies in transactions with an initial value of €19.3 million.

DCC Energy has bought Dyneley Holdings Ltd, a British fuel card business, while DCC Healthcare has bought Laleham Healthcare, a UK-based contract manufacturer.

Both acquired businesses generate profits of €7 million annually.
