Racing: Peter Toole's recovery from serious injury took another positive step today when he was transferred from hospital in Liverpool to Dublin.
The 22-year-old jockey suffered bleeding on the right side of his brain when Classic Fly fell at the first fence of the Maghull Novices’ Chase on Grand National day, and was hospitalised in the Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery.
A statement released by the Injured Jockeys Fund read: “We are pleased to say that Peter has today been transferred by Air Ambulance to the Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.
“He has made good improvement over the last week or so and is well enough to undertake the journey over to Ireland to be closer to his family.
“Karen Sharpe, IJF Almoner, said it has been a privilege to have been able to support Peter and his parents James and Fidelma during Peter’s stay in hospital.
“It has been fantastic to see the improvement Peter has made over the course of the last few weeks, he has clearly retained his sense of fun and as he left the ward at the Walton today he gave the nurses a wave and the thumbs up.
“Mr and Mrs Toole would like to thank everyone for the support they have received during Peter’s stay in hospital, in particular Aintree Racecourse who have provided accommodation for them during their stay and also the whole team at the Walton Centre whose staff have provided a level of care which is second to none.
“In addition, the messages of support and cards from well-wishers have been hugely appreciated.”
