The brother of Nobel Peace Prize winner John Hume has scooped more than €1.25 million in the National Lottery.
Jim Hume (60), from Strabane, Co Tyrone collected €1,254,049 at National Lottery headquarters in Dublin this afternoon.
Mr Hume is married to Brenda and they have three children, Liam, Sharon and Grainne. They have five grandchildren. Jim works as a Sales Manager in Lurgan, Co Armagh.
"I discovered I had won at 11.45pm last night when I checked my ticket at the kitchen table," Mr Hume said.
"I let a roar out to Brenda, who was in bed, that I had won the Lotto and I will not repeat what she said to me", he added.
"I have played Lotto every week since it started and the most I had won in the past was a match five prize some years ago".
Jim is the 72nd person from the North to win a jackpot prize in the Republic's lottery. He bought the ticket in Lifford, Co Donegal, for last night's midweek draw.
His more famous brother is former leader of the SDLP and was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1998 four years after he helped secure an IRA ceasefire.
