The editor of The Irish Times, Ms Geraldine Kennedy, has announced that columnist Mr John Waters will no longer be writing for the newspaper.
Ms Kennedy has written to Mr Waters to inform him he will no longer be required to contribute to the newspaper.
"You expressed the view publicly on RTE that I was 'compromised' as editor of the Irish Times. Your challenge to my journalistic ethics cannot stand," Ms Kennedy said in a letter to Mr Waters.
"You are clearly unhappy working for a newspaper where you believe that its structure, culture and editor are 'compromised'".
Mr Waters had been strongly critical of fees paid to Irish Timesdirectors in an article he submitted two weeks ago.The article was not published by the newspaper.
