VIETNAM:Hollywood star Angelina Jolie hugged and spoke a few words in Vietnamese to comfort the crying boy she has adopted and plans to take to live with her family in America, newspapers reported yesterday.

Reports said that the child, almost 3½ years old and now renamed Pax Thien Jolie, cried when he saw his adoptive mother on Thursday at the Ho Chi Minh city orphanage where he has lived since infancy.

The Lao Dongnewspaper said that Jolie was quick to hug the boy and spoke in Vietnamese saying "khong sao dau, khong sao dau" (no problem, no problem).

A report in the city's Phap Luatnewspaper said that Jolie had apologised for the global media attention focused on the boy. "I would also like to say sorry because I have brought this into Pax's life."

The paper quoted Jolie as saying that she was taking a break from acting to help the child adjust to his new life.

Jolie collected the boy from the orphanage on Thursday and signed adoption papers with the authorities. The adoption will become final once US embassy officials in Hanoi approve the paperwork.

Jolie visited Vietnam in November and filed papers in early March. Her partner, Brad Pitt, was not included in the paperwork because, under Vietnamese law, an unmarried couple cannot adopt a child while a single person can.
