Motor Sport: Eddie Jordan, the former head of Jordan Grand Prix, will spearhead plans to bring a stage of the World Rally Championship to the north west later this year.
Jordan has been appointed chairman of Rally Ireland, which will run the event in November. The Dubliner will team up with former rugby international Trevor Ringland, who has been named as deputy chairman, for the rally which is understood to be worth €46 million to the economy.
The cross border rally will run over 1,400km in the north west and looks likely to visit Donegal, Tyrone, Fermanagh, Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon, and Cavan.
Jordan is best known as founder of Jordan Grand Prix and for giving German Formula One legend Michael Schumacher his debut.
Jordan said: "This is a huge sporting opportunity for Ireland. We have a wealth of talent in motorsport, both as competitors and organisers, and being part of WRC will allow us to develop that talent for the future."
The autumn race will include a Super Special Stage, where competitors race head to head over parallel tracks, and it is expected to attract 150,000 spectators in total.
The other members of the Rally Ireland Management Board are co-founders Seán O'Connor and Ronan Morgan and ceo David Marren. The four-day event will run from November 15th-18th.
