WASHINGTON - The journalist who broke the story that led to the suicide of Admiral Jeremy Boorda, chief of US naval operations, has been dismissed, according to the news agency that employed him. Roger Charles was dismissed by the National Security News Service after financial backers of the non profit news organisation objected to what they saw as its "sensational" reporting.

Charles, a former marine officer, investigated Admiral Boorda's wearing of military decorations that he was not entitled to wear.
