A collection of documents by and about James Joyce was sold at auction by Mealys auctioneers in Dublin yesterday for £65,000, more than twice the upper estimate of £30,000. The purchaser is a private Irish collector and the collection will stay in Ireland.
The documents include two letters by Joyce to Thomas Keohler, a friend, They also include a very rare first printing of The Holy Office and letters from Keohler to Joyce.
