Entebbe - A group of 21 Ugandan kidnap victims of the Sudanese Lord's Resistance Army returned home to a joyous welcome yesterday. The 15 children, five adults and a baby were the first to be sent back since Uganda and Sudan signed an agreement last month seeking to end years of conflict.
Many children who have escaped the clutches of the LRA in the past have described hideous brutality. Some were forced to kill parents and siblings, others were sexually abused. Those still believed to be in the hands of the LRA include up to 30 girls kidnapped from a Catholic boarding school in northern Uganda in October 1996.
