A judge yesterday adjourned consideration of jurisdiction in the case of a college lecturer charged with possession of child pornography.

Mr Donal Storey (48), Marino Green, Dublin, is charged with possessing 12 images on his home computer on May 27th last year.

Mr Storey was arrested by gardaí as part of Operation Amethyst.

In Dublin District Court yesterday, Judge Miriam Malone asked to see print-outs of the images involved to allow her to decide whether the case was too serious to be dealt with in the District Court.

After viewing nine of the images over lunch, she asked that she be supplied with the three others because she could not determine jurisdiction until she had seen all of the exhibits which the prosecution would be relying on.

Judge Malone rejected a suggestion by the defence that the prosecuting officer could outline the nature of the outstanding images, saying this was not like a criminal damage or assault case where jurisdiction could be decided on an outline of the allegations.

After she was told it would take time to get the the other images, Judge Malone adjourned the case until January 31st.

She also asked that the three other images be handed in in advance of the case being called on the next day.
