A man from Co Limerick was ordered to stay out of Northern Ireland by a judge in Belfast today.

Mr Lawrence Breen (39), who had been living at Carrickree, Warrenpoint, Co Down, was told by Mr Justice Coghlin that he must return to his former home at Herbertstown.

Mr Breen, who had been remanded in custody on charges of causing grievous bodily harm to a 22-yer-old man and stealing a Playstation and karaoke machine, applied for bail in the High Court.

The court heard the assault victim was still in hospital a week after he received a severe beating with a baseball bat.

The court was told the victim had named another man as being his attacker but alleged Mr Breen urged him on by saying: "Hit the Northern bastard some more, he needs it."

Mr Justice Coghlin said Mr Breen could be released on bail on condition he stayed out of Northern Ireland.
