The trial of four young men charged with the manslaughter of a student, Mr Brian Murphy, outside the Burlington Hotel in Dublin continued yesterday in legal argument in the absence of the jury.
Mr Andrew Frame (22), Nutley Lane, Donnybrook, Mr Sean Mackey (23), South Park, Foxrock, Mr Desmond Ryan (22), Cunningham Road, Dalkey, all Co Dublin, and Mr Dermot Laide (22), Rossvale, Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, have pleaded not guilty to the manslaughter of 18-year-old Mr Murphy at Sussex Road on August 31st, 2000.
The four former Blackrock College students have also denied committing violent disorder by using or threatening to use unlawful violence on the same date.
Before Judge Michael White let the jury go yesterday evening he once again reiterated they should pay no heed to the intense publicity the trial has generated and rely solely on the evidence that they hear in the witness box.
The case is expected to continue this morning.

Hearing on Miss Ireland name
The Miss World Ltd organisation, which is headed by Ms Julia Morley, does not have any exclusive rights to the Miss Ireland name, counsel for a Limerick man and his company argued before the High Court yesterday.
Mr Denis McDonald SC said that, although Ms Morley had referred to a Miss Ireland trademark, it was clear this was not a Miss Ireland trademark as such but a "device mark" which appeared to be used by Miss World Ltd on an international basis.
Counsel was making submissions on the second day of the hearing of an application for an injunction to prevent Miss Ireland Beauty Pageant Ltd, O'Connell Street, Limerick, and a director of that company, Mr Kieran Murray, Iona Drive, North Circular Road, Limerick, from passing off any of their events as the Miss Ireland pageant.
The plaintiffs are Miss World Ltd and two Dublin businesswomen, Ms Margaret Humphries and Ms Andrea Roche, organisers of last year's Miss Ireland event.
The hearing, before Miss Justice Laffoy, continues today.
