Embattled Circuit Court judge Brian Curtin was reportedly arrested last night on suspicion of drink driving in Co Kerry.

Embattled Circuit Court judge Brian Curtin was reportedly arrested last night on suspicion of drink driving in Co Kerry.

Judge Curtin was held at about 11.30 last night on the Ashe Street roundabout in Tralee. His driving alerted a passing garda, according to reports by RTÉ.

He was taken to Tralee Garda station and released from custody after approximately one hour. It is expected the results of a urine sample will be available within 10 days.

A spokesman in the Garda press office said: "It is our policy not to discuss the details of individual arrests".

The Tralee-based judge has not tried a case since he was charged with possession of child pornography over two years ago. He was acquitted after it emerged gardaí searched his house using an out-of-date warrant.

Last week, the Government postponed taking any further decisions on disciplinary action until after he replies to a demand for full information about his conduct. He is expected to fight any attempt to impeach him.
