A judge in Dublin District Court yesterday lifted a ban on the publication of the name of a former schoolteacher who indecently assaulted two pupils in the 1950s and 1960s.
David Lowry (67) had pleaded guilty to abusing the two boys while teaching at a north Dublin school between 1957 and 1959 and at a midlands school in 1967 and 1970.
He was known as "Brother Lowry" in the north Dublin school because he was at that time, the late 1950s, still training for the brotherhood. But he left before professing at the age of 27.
Judge David Anderson, who previously prohibited the publication of Lowry's name, yesterday heard that neither victim felt he would be identified if his name was revealed. In view of that, Judge Anderson said, he was no longer restraining publication.
Judge Anderson said that he would adjourn the case until next March for a further report.
