A JUDGE has threatened to imprison noisy workmen who interfere with the running of his court.

Judge James Carroll was forced to briefly adjourn his list in the Circuit Civil Court yesterday as a workman operated an electric concrete cutter under the windows of Court 27 in the Four Courts complex.

Before adjourning the court, he said he had notified the administrator of the Four Courts and the Department of Justice of the impossibility of carrying on business while "pneumatic drills and cement mixers" were operated outside.

Following consultations with gardai, the foreman in charge of the renovation work outside Court 27 was brought before Judge Carroll by Sgt Sean Creagh. Judge Carroll told him that in future he would commit to prison any workman causing a disturbance within sight or sound of his court between 10.30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
