Judge refuses bail application

A woman who threatened a female security guard while unlawfully at large from prison was refused bail yesterday

A woman who threatened a female security guard while unlawfully at large from prison was refused bail yesterday. Ms Melody McGovern (19), of Seville Place, Dublin, is accused of stealing a £10 bag from the Wallis store, Henry Street, a £65 jacket from Warehouse, Henry Street, and criminal damage to a security tag on July 26th.

Sgt Jerry Bergin said that after he arrested the defendant she told the security guard in Wallis's: "There's plenty of bleeding junkies out there who'll do you for a score".

Sgt Bergin said the woman was returned to Mountjoy Prison that evening because she was unlawfully at large, but was released the following day. The day after that she walked up to another security guard in Wallis's and waved in his face. Then on July 29th she failed to appear in court.

Judge Thomas Fitzpatrick refused the bail application and remanded the defendant in custody to appear again on August 27th.
