A man awaiting sentence having drugs fears for his life after being stabbed by a fellow inmate in Mountjoy Prison, a judge heard yesterday.
As a result of the attack on Thursday night, Alvin Clarke needed 14 stitches for a wound to his back, his counsel, Mr Patrick Marrinan, told Judge Cyril Kelly at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Mr Marrinan said Clarke was suffering extreme discrimination in Mountjoy and was fearful for his well being.
Clarke (24), of Rose Heights, Montego Bay, west Jamaica, pleaded guilty to possessing £125,000 worth of cocaine for sale or supply at or near Dun Laoghaire on March 8th, 1996.. He has been in custody since his arrest.
Judge Kelly remanded Clarke in continuing custody to July 16th and ruled he should be held in a place of safety.
