Judgment has been reserved in the Belfast Crown Court trial of former Middlesborough soldier, Mr Keith Winward (36), who denies involvement in Northern Ireland's biggest robbery.

Mr Justice Girvan, adjourning the case, set no date for delivering a verdict in the £1.1 million robbery case, but said he would give it as soon as possible.

In final submissions on behalf of the Securicor van driver, Mr Eugene Grant QC, defending, said Mr Winward had been "acting as a man in true terror, on automatic pilot - he was a robot". Mr Winward claims he handed over the Post Office cash to terrorists in April last year after three men claiming to be from the IRA took over his then Finch Way home in loyalist south Belfast and held his wife and family hostage.

The prosecution alleges that the former soldier in the Green Howards was part of the robbery team and had arranged for his family to be taken captive as part of a cover-up.
