Judgment has been reserved in a High Court action brought by the Eastern Health Board in relation to the production of certain documents for a Medical Council inquiry into allegations against a prominent Dublin doctor. The action opened on Tuesday and was heard in camera following a ruling by Mr Justice Barr.

The Medical Council is investigating complaints by parents who allege that they were wrongly accused by Dr Moira Woods of sexually abusing their children in the late 1980s. The parents include a couple whose children were returned to them by the courts.

Dr Woods was the first director of the Sexual Assault Unit at the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin. She was involved in providing evidence for health board investigations of suspected abuse.

The EHB is refusing to hand over documentation relating to a number of children at the centre of private court hearings.

This week's proceedings related to notice of a motion being brought by the board which seeks to quash a Medical Council order directing the production of records in the board's possession. The board also asked the court to inquire into whether or not evidence previously given at private hearings of family law cases could be used in the Medical Council's inquiry.

Mr Justice Barr reserved judgment yesterday. It will be delivered in open court at a later date.
