The 36-hole Doc Marten boots have been cast to one side and Juliet Turner has donned strappy sandals for the presentation. "I have to look a bit glam for the gig," she says. Her second album, Burn the Black Suit, has sold over 7,500 copies in Ireland since its release earlier this summer, achieving "gold album status". Turner's two sisters, Kathleen and Alison, are also here to celebrate and party in Whelan's on Wexford Street. DJ Mike Moloney, still hoarse from the celebrations at his own wedding at the weekend to Catriona Belton, is waiting to present the singer with a framed gold disc to mark her success.

"Everybody I really care about is here in this room," says Turner looking down at her mother and father, Elaine and Dougie Turner, her two sisters and her friends and relations: actor Jenny Ryan; cellist Harry Napier; stylist Georgina Heffernan and relations Kenny and Rosalind Beattie. John Pendry and his wife Sophie, the grandparents of musician Stephen Jones, a friend of Turner's, are down from Belfast for the gig too.

All of those who are from the North, including Turner and her family, who come from Omagh, are particularly conscious of the significance of the day, August 15th, when the 300 lb bomb went off in the town two years ago, killing 29 people and two unborn babies. Turner says she's "very aware of it". Before she begins to sing she reminds us of the tragedy. "I haven't forgotten what happened up there and neither should you."
