The High Court will give judgment on June 7th on a challenge by two Independent TDs to the manner in which certain Dáil constituencies have been revised. Mr Justice Frank Clarke described issues in the case as "very important".
Dublin North-Central TD Finian McGrath and Kildare North TD Catherine Murphy are challenging the constitutionality of the Electoral Amendment Act, which defines constituency boundaries. The challenge follows their analysis of census figures.
The hearing of their action, and of a related action by Feargal Molloy, a Dublin West constituent seeking to have an extra seat added to the constituency before polling day, began last Tuesday and concluded yesterday.
Mr Justice Clarke said that he had considered giving a preliminary judgment before the election, but had decided against this because his decision could have no practical impact until the new Dáil convened.
