The controversial Keane: The Autobiographyhas been nominated for British Book of the Year.
The book, which the Manchester United captain co-wrote with journalist Eamon Dunphy, has also been shortlisted in the Biography of the Year section.
The winners of the 13th British Book Awards are to be announced at an awards ceremony in London this evening.
The Manchester United captain and former Irelandinternational is expected to attend tonight's ceremony at Grosvenor House in London.
The organisers described the book as "a searing read and an honest self-portrait of a sometimes tortured individual with an obsession to win . . . elevating the autobiography from the narrower realms of sport."
The contents of the book, in particular those relating to Keane's tackle of Manchester City's Alf Inge Haaland in April 2001, led to the Corkman receiving a suspension from the English FA last year after being found guilty of two charges of bringing the game into disrepute.
He was banned for five matches and received a record fine.
Among those also nominated in the Book of the Year category are 2002 Booker winner Yann Martel's The Life of Pi, Michael Moore's Stupid White Menand Ian McEwan's Atonement.The nominations were chosen by 150 members of the British book trade.
The most recent sports title to win Book of the Year was Alex Ferguson's 1999 autobiography Managing My Life.
