Leeds United defender Gary Kelly has been recalled to the Republic of Ireland squad for Wednesday's Group 2 World Cup qualifying game againstAndorra at Lansdowne Road.

Kelly was ruled out of Leeds' Champions League match against Deportivo La Coruna on Tuesday because of an ankle injury. But Elland Road boss David O'Leary has given the all clear for Kelly to join up with the rest of the Irish squad in Dublin on Sunday."David O'Leary and myself have had talks and have agreed that Gary can come to take part in this World Cup game," said Republic boss Mick McCarthy. But a last-minute omission is Coventry City midfielder Lee Carsley, whose wife is expecting a baby within the next few days. The Republic currently top Group 2 after five unbeaten matches. That included draws away to Holland in Amsterdam and Portugal in Lisbon as well as victories away to Cyprus in Nicosia and Andorra in Barcelona. With five matches to play, four of them in Dublin, McCarthy must quietly fancy the chances of his team making the World Cup finals in Japan and South Korea next summer. -PA
