Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Alan Kelly has had a transfer request accepted by English First Division side Blackburn Rovers.

The Irish keeper has been out of the frame at Ewood Park since the recent arrival of former Liverpool star Brad Friedel.

Kelly joined Rovers as a Brian Kidd signing in the summer of 1999 and started the season as first choice. But he lost his place to John Filan and now finds himself third choice.

Kelly said: "I want to play football, it's as simple as that. Third choice is no good for me, especially as it jeopardises my international prospects.
