Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has expressed regret at recent comments made by the Fine Gael Mayor of Limerick, Kevin Kiely, in which he had called for eastern European workers to be deported if they were unemployed for more than three months.
“I disagreed fundamentally with the Mayor of Limerick; it was a most unfortunate statement,” said Mr Kenny, who said he would meet Mr Kiely next week. “We value the input and contribution and work ethic of our EU colleagues and I’m glad he has retracted his comments.”
