Nairobi - Some 1,700 Kenyan civilians were killed by armed criminals since 1998, police said yesterday, rejecting accusations that its own officers wrongfully slew 1,300 people over the last five years.
Since 1997, 192 policemen, including 20 reservists were killed by criminals, said a police spokesperson, who was responding to claims made by human rights organisations that the police were responsible for 1,300 extrajudicial killings over the last five years.
