Glen Crowe has been called into the Republic of Ireland squad for tomorrow night's friendly against Turkey at Lansdowne Road.

Glen Crowe has been called into the Republic of Ireland squad for tomorrow night's friendly against Turkey at Lansdowne Road.

The Bohemians' striker, who has won two caps, has been brought in by manager Brian Kerr as cover after Cardiff City's Alan Lee was ruled out with a knee injury.

With Clinton Morrison of Birmingham City expected to be rested, Tottenham's Gary Doherty will start up front and is likely to be partnered by David Connolly.

Kerr will make at least six changes to the team that faced Russia. Shay Given, John O'Shea, Lee Carsley and captain Kenny Cunningham are out. Matt Holland is also struggling with an ankle injury.

Among the definite starters will be Nicky Colgan, Ian Harte, Mark Kinsella and Steve Finnan.

There is speculation that Damian Duff will play on the right side of midfield.

Meanwhile Gary Breen is backing the team to bounce back from the disappointment of Saturday's 1-1 draw with Russia and still qualify for next summer's European Championship finals in Portugal.

With the final Group 10 qualifier against Switzerland next month the players know that a victory in Basel will guarantee them a play-off place - although results in other games might mean it is good enough to secure automatic qualification.

"If you were to ask me if I was confident of us being able to go to Switzerland and win the game with our squad then I would say in no uncertain terms 'yes,'" said Breen.

"We have won some tough games away before now and if we have the chance to go to Switzerland and win there to get to Portugal then all the lads will be very confident we can do it.

With captain Kenny Cunningham ruled out through suspension, Kerr has the option of moving John O'Shea into the middle and bringing Ian Harte in at left-back, or replacing Cunningham with either Richard Dunne or Andy O'Brien.

Whatever happens, Breen has confidence in all three candidates to play alongside him.

"Everyone knows John O'Shea's qualities, he has proved himself at the highest level including the Champions League," said Breen.

"I have played with Richard Dunne in many big games for Ireland and I have nothing but respect for him - he has never let his country down. Andy O'Brien is performing very well at Newcastle so there are no problems there.
