Brian Kerr has delayed naming his first Republic of Ireland starting line-up until an hour before kick-off this evening.
Kerr, who takes charge of the senior side for the first time in tonight's friendly against Scotland at Hampden Park, had been due to announce the team this morning.
However, after training this morning the manager decided to wait until 7pm before confirming the side, presumably to give Steve Finnan, who is suffering from a cold, ample time to prove his fitness.
Meanwhile, Kerr has revealed plans are afoot for his "B" team to face their Scottish counterparts regularly in the future.
He admitted talks have already begun to give those Republic of Ireland and Scotland players who are on the fringes of full international recognition and too old for Under-21s the opportunity to continue their development by facing each other.
He said: "I think that it would be good idea to look and have a international match at B level.
"Scotland have a future squad now and that would be an interesting one for us to go in because we have a lot of players now who have gone past the Under-21 age.
"They have the potential for the senior team and an opportunity to play. The coaches have discussed the possibilities of this happening every so often."
