Kerry and Mayo closed the gap on National League leaders Donegal at the top of Division One A after wins over Limerick and Fermanagh this afternoon.
With Donegal maintaining their 100 per cent record with victory over Tyrone last night, the chasing pack needed points on the board today to keep their title aspirations on track.
In Killarney, Kerry were made to work hard for a 1-10 to 0-10 win over their Munster neighbours, a Mike Frank Russell goal eight minutes from time effectively sealing the points for Pat O'Shea's side.
In Clones, an under-strength Mayo side were never in control against Fermanagh but held on for a 0-12 to 1-7 win. Fermanagh enjoyed plenty of possession on the day but were unable to keep the scoreboard ticking over and will rue a host of missed chances.
In Division One B, Derry breathed new life into their campaign with a dominant display in Crossmaglen, comfortably keeping Armagh at arms length. A 1-13 to 1-8 win owed much to the strength of Derry's defence who limited the Armagh attack to few scoring opportunities for much of the contest.
Elsewhere, Galway overcame Kildare by 1-8 to 1-6, Division 1B league leaders Westmeath came unstuck in Louth, losing by 1-12 to 0-7, while in Newcastle bottom placed Down endured another miserable afternoon with a 1-13 to 0-9 defeat at the hands
