Cork 4-8 Kerry 1-9

The first ever floodlit inter-county contest went ahead tonight in Pairc Ui Rinn but one could be forgiven for thinking that only one team turned up.

The red of the rebels came to the fore in this historic game as some slick interplay tore their old rivals Kerry apart despite Cork finishing with just 13 men on the pitch, both dismissals for innocuous - rather than dangerous or ill-tempered - behaviour.

Kerry took an early advantage chiseling out a three point lead with some typically smooth football, but the turning point came when Cork slammed in two soft goals in as many minutes.

A similar spell in the second half yielded the same result as all the while Cork took their points as well.

Kerry did take their points however but lacked the cutting edge that Larry Tompkins' side had with their short concise interplay that led in particular to one memorable goal.

In the earlier game Antrim saw off the challenge of London, winning 2-15 to 0-8.

Martin McCarrty (17) and Darren O'Hare (65) claimed a goal each, with Anto Finnegana at centre-half back claiming the man of the match award.
