KERRY FOOTBALLER Paul Galvin will avoid a conviction under the Road Traffic Acts after he volunteered to pay into the court poor box.
Mr Galvin was caught driving with four bald tyres on the outskirts of Tralee last October. He had failed to turn up in court last month when the case was previously listed, because of “a misunderstanding”,his solicitor Pádraig O’Connell told the court yesterday. He was in court on a plea, the solicitor said.
Mr O’Connell said the previous listing of the case in April had heard from Garda Damian Callinan Mr Galvin’s “four tyres were not to the correct measurement”.
He had been stopped at Clash Cross, Tralee, by Garda Callinan on October 5th, 2010, and he fully co-operated with gardaí, the solicitor said. “He went to Tyre Stop and replaced the tyres immediately,” Mr O’Connell said.
He had also since produced his insurance – he had had valid insurance at the time, the solicitor said.
Mr Galvin had no previous convictions, Mr O’Connell also said.
“He has voluntarily agreed to pay a sum of €500 to the poor box,” Mr O’Connell said.
Judge James O’Connor, said this was “a reasonable amount” and he ordered him to pay the money into the court poor box by July 29th to avoid a conviction.
The matter has been adjourned to that date.
