GAA/National Football League round-up:Dublin will have to wait until the last round of fixtures to find out who they will face in the National Football League decider after Mayo beat Cork by 1-13 to 0-14 in Castlebar this afternoon.
Kerry beat Monaghan by 1-14 to 0-11 in Inniskeen to draw level on eight points with the Rebels, with Down a point behind the Munster pair and still in with a chance of making the final despite their defeat to Dublin in Croke Park on Saturday night.
Down travel to Killarney next Sunday to take on Kerry in the final round of matches, while Cork have a home clash against Armagh.
Jason Doherty’s goal proved the decisive score for Mayo as they held off a late fight back from Cork to secure their Division One status for another year.
Padraic Joyce played a pivotal role in Galway’s 1-20 to 0-18 win over Armagh at the Athletic Grounds, a result that keeps alive the Tribesmen’s hopes of surviving in the top flight.
Joyce scored five points and was fouled for a penalty that was converted by Cormac Bane as they won their first game of the campaign.
Galway are now level on two points with Monaghan at the bottom of the table and will need to beat Dublin next weekend and hope Armagh lose in Cork or Monaghan slip up at home to Mayo.
Donegal look on course for promotion from Division Two as they kept up their unbeaten campaign with a 1-17 to 1-8 victory over Antrim at Ballyshannon.
Donegal are on 10 points with Laois, Tyrone and Derry all on eight points after they recorded victories this afternoon. Tyrone’s 0-13 to 0-15 over Kildare dropped the Lilywhites back to fifth position from second spot. Sligo, Meath and Antrim all lost and two of the three will go down next week.
Wexford remain on top of Division Three despite going down to a 0-17 to 0-10 loss to Tipperary in Clonmel. Offaly took advantage by drawing level on eight points with a 1-14 to 1-12 win over Waterford in Dungarvan, while Westmeath are a point behind after they beat Limerick 0-14 to 0-12 in Newcastlewest.
Tipperary’s win keeps alive their hopes of promotion after the joined Louth on six points after they were beaten by Cavan on Saturday. Limerick and Waterford remain at the bottom of the table, both on four points.
Roscommon secured promotion to Division Three with a facile 0-25 to 0-1 victory over Kilkenny in Kiltoom, while Longford remain in the second promotion slot in Division Four after they beat Leitrim 1-8 to 0-10 in Longford.
Wicklow and Carlow remain in the hunt on nine points.
