Kilkenny 2-24 Wexford 1-12:  All-Ireland champions Kilkenny secured their ninth Leinster senior hurling title in 10 years after a 15 point demolition of Wexford at Croke Park.

Wexford were woefully poor and were struggling early on, indeed by the 12th minute they had conceded two goals and their game was up.

Take nothing away from Kilkenny though who were superb throughout.  They may have idled in the second half but the All-Ireland champions signalled their title ambitions in ruthless fashion.

Wexford opened the scoring but Kilkenny, as they tend to do, retaliated in ruthless fashion.  Willie O'Dwyer's deflected goal in the fourth minute set an ominous tone.

Just six minutes later O'Dwyer netted his second to destroy Wexford's spirit.  Henry Shefflin toyed with Declan Ruth before hand passing to his team-mate who dispatched with conviction.

From that point on Kilkenny's assault was relentless and they led by 11 points at the break on a 2-11 to 0-6 scoreline.

Shefflin, who was roughed up throughout, ended the contest with nine points and even with that he squandered the odd chance.

Stephen Nolan's penalty goal midway through the second half goal was scant consolation for a Wexford side who were down and out from the 10th minute.
