Alan Mahood scored 12 minutes from time on the last day of the Scottish premier league season to giveKilmarnock a 1-0 home win over Celtic and a place in next season's UEFA Cup.

Kilmarnock, needing to beat the runaway champions to ensure their European spot, found Celtic fielding a below-strength team ahead of nextweekend's Scottish Cup final against Hibernian and were well worth their victory.

Hearts, who started the day in fifth place hoping for Kilmarnock to slip up, did all they could with a 2-0 home win over Dundee but missed out bytwo points.

Runners-up Rangers ended a disappointing season with a 4-0 home win over third-placed Hibs, Ronald de Boer scoring twice.
