Irish building products group Kingspan has entered into agreements with 3DM Worldwide to jointly develop a number of construction materials using an environmentally friendly manufacturing process.
Some of the products being developed will be in substitution of existing output manufactured by Kingspan, for which the Powder Impression Moulding (PIM) process will provide cost and environmental benefits.
Others will be new products which Kingspan has not previously manufactured.
Mr Ken Brooks, chairman of plastic technology company 3DM Worldwide, said: "Our collaboration has been driven by Kingspan's desire to find alternative materials for existing products which have cost and weight savings as well as environmental benefits."
3DM said the environmental benefits of the PIM process will enable the two companies to seek grant funding to recoup some of the development costs.
