Hoping to fill half-empty planes, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines said today it is cutting economy class fares by 25 per cent on all European destinations.

The offer is valid immediately for flights through March 31st, but bookings must be made before November 23rd, KLM said. The airline said it also is making booking conditions more flexible. Tickets can be amended free of charge for the first change.

KLM spokesman Mr Hugo Baas said the offer is targeted primarily at leisure travelers. Rates for business class remain unchanged.

"Businessmen have to fly anyway. So we would cut our own revenues if we would slash those prices as well," he said.
