Patrick Kluivert will stay on at Barcelona next season after agreeing not to exercise a special buy-out clause in his contract.

Barcelona's decision not to pay Kluivert a bonus payment of €4.6 million, agreed at his last contract revision, gave him the right to walk away from the club for a bargain fee of just €1.8 million.

The Dutch international striker attracted interest from several clubs around Europe but after conversations with Barcelona this week he has agreed to stay on.

"The continued presence of Patrick Kluivert in the squad is great news for Barcelona," club managing director Javier Perez Farguell told Barcelona's official website today.

Kluivert's decision will be a relief for newly elected club president Joan Laporta, who failed in his bid to sign David Beckham and seems to have all but given up hope of bringing in Ronaldinho from Paris St Germain.
