Knock passenger turnover increases 25%

The number of passengers using Knock Airport increased by 25 per cent to 250,000 in 2003.

The number of passengers using Knock Airport increased by 25 per cent to 250,000 in 2003.

The figure represents an increase of 51,000 passengers over 2002 numbers.  Turnover also increased by 30 per cent to € 5.1 million, and 39 new staff were hired at the airport over the same period.

Mr Liam Scollan, chief executive of Knock International Airport, said he was proud at the performance of the airport in 2003.

"There have been a number of changes and positive developments at the airport, and all involved have met those challenges with enthusiasm," he said.

One of the most successful changes introduced at Knock in 2003 was daily flights between Knock and Birmingham, with over 75,000 passengers using the service to date.

A spokesman for the airport also welcomed the news that the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs will be relocated to Knock Airport.
