Plans for a reunion of 100 North and South Korean families who have been separated for over 50 years have been abandoned following the breakdown of talks between the two countries, Miriam Donohoe reports.
All-night negotiations between North and South Korean officials at the North Korean resort of Mount Kumgang failed to reach an agreement to hold the reunions for elderly Koreans next month. The talks were the latest effort by the Koreas, still technically at war since their 1950-1953 conflict ended without a formal peace treaty, to implement agreements after the landmark summit between the two countries in Pyongyang last year.
