Kormac’s Big Band: Main Stage, Friday 4pm:
The Electric Picnic bookers probably didn’t have to scratch their heads for too long to select a perfect opening act for the Main Stage.
The sun shoved the clouds aside, punters skipped through the arena gates, trumpets blasted, vocal harmonies sparkled, kick drums were thumped and bass lines were thumbed.
Playing a rake of new material from an upcoming record, brassy hip hop jams blended with head-bopping ease. "This is the healthiest you're going to feel in the next three days," Kormac announced to cheers as some more chest-rattling bass kicked in.
Signing off with a song he recently co-wrote with Irvine Welsh and with at least 11 band members spanning the stage at all times, hand-raising was contagious. With Kormac's relentlessly optimistic beats, didn't those wellies on your feet just feel that bit lighter?
