A Filipino lorry driver has been awarded almost €7,000 after his employer underpaid him over four years.
The Labour Court ruled that Johnson Logistics should pay compensation to Jose Lito Quiber, whose salary worked out at less than the minimum wage for more than 60 hours work a week.
Johnson Logistics will pay him €6,619.
Siptu organiser Des Hughes said it was another example of gross exploitation of workers.
"At the time of his appointment Mr Quiber was contracted to work eight hours a day - with a guarantee of 45 hours a week. However, he ended up working an average of 60 hours a week - not the 45 hours as stated in his contract," he said.
"The Labour Court . . . formed the view that our member had indeed been paid less than the minimum wage for his period of employment . . . we are pleased that the Labour Court has rectified this case of gross exploitation."
